MADD
PACIFIC NW REGION EUGENE
AFFILIATE OFFICE
The Lane County Chapter was founded
by Barbara Stoeffler in 1982 after losing her son, Mark,
in a violent death when a drunk driver impaired by
alcohol and marijuana hit him as he rode his bicycle
along Coburg Road early one summer evening in 1972. The
offender was out on bail, pending sentencing for a drug
trafficking conviction. The man left a trail of grief
that ripped through family and friends.
As soon as the founding of the Chapter was announced to
the public, victims and non-victims of drunk driving
joined, forming a strong organization that has since
worked tirelessly. We’re determined to carry out MADD’s
mission: to stop drunk driving, help victims of this
violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
"In 2005, National MADD
changed our structure by organizing a Pacific Northwest
Region and selected MADD of Eugene as a key Affiliate
Office, responsible for all of MADD in the southern half
of Oregon."
