We're MADD. Mothers
Against Drunk Driving.
We're dads and daughters, sons, and uncles, friends and
neighbors. And mothers. We're all ages and from
all walks of life. We speak of love and loss, but
also of survival and hope. We are committed to our
mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of
this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
Since our beginning in 1980,
we've been working to make our roads and communities
safer by preventing motorists from drinking and driving. And it's been paying off.
Our efforts helped reduce the number of alcohol-related
crashes and injuries. It is estimated that MADD has
saved more than 330,000 lives since 1980. Over
25,000 have been saved by the 21 minimum drinking age
laws alone. (To learn more, go to www.why21.org.)
But our work doesn't stop there. MADD also provides
much-needed comfort and support for victims and
survivors. And we are deeply committed to the
prevention of underage drinking because alcohol is the
deadliest drug for the youth today.
Statistics
show that kids are starting to drink as early as
age 12. Offender statistics also show that they are four times more
likely to drink and drive.
As you can see, we have done so much. But there is much
more to be done. And we can't do it alone. We need
more people like YOU.

MADD - PACIFIC NW REGION EUGENE
AFFILIATE OFFICE
The Lane County Chapter was founded
by Barbara Stoeffler in 1982 after losing her son, Mark,
in a violent death when a drunk driver impaired by
alcohol and marijuana hit him as he rode his bicycle
along Coburg Road early one summer evening in 1972. The
offender was out on bail, pending sentencing for a drug
trafficking conviction. The man left a trail of grief
that ripped through family and friends.
As soon as the founding of the Chapter was announced to
the public, victims and non-victims of drunk driving
joined, forming a strong organization that has since
worked tirelessly. We’re determined to carry out MADD’s
mission: to stop drunk driving, help victims of this
violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
"In 2005, National MADD
changed our structure by organizing a Pacific Northwest
Region and selected MADD of Eugene as a key Affiliate
Office, responsible for all of MADD in the southern half
of Oregon."
